Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Director of People Consulting & Services to lead GitHub’s global People Consulting and Services teams. This role is responsible for driving strategic people consulting with the business, operational excellence, and service delivery across the employee lifecycle. The Senior Director will oversee a team of People Consultants and Services professionals, ensuring seamless integration of People programs, compliance, and scalable operations.
This leader will shape the future of the People function at GitHub by synthesizing insights, influencing organizational strategy, and delivering measurable impact through both consultative and operational People leadership.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations & People Solutions Consulting

  • Lead and manage the global People Consulting team through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching and caring.
  • Direct the diagnostics and resolution of complex employee relations issues, collaborating with managers, Legal and cross-functional HR partners as appropriate
  • Interpret trends in employee relations data and design proactive interventions to improve organizational health.
    Support organizational resilience through crisis management planning and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Global understanding of employee performance process to lead the business effectively.

People Projects & Programs

  • Partner with Centers of Excellence on designing, implementing, and continually refining scalable People programs and processes (e.g., Rhythm of Business, performance and development cycle, management excellence communities, etc.)
  • Strategically partner with functional People teams as well as Communications, Legal, and other stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
  • Guide communication strategies to support effective change management.

Services & Operations

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of People Services operations, ensuring efficient, accurate, and compliant service delivery.
  • Drive operational excellence in data management, systems updates, onboarding, internal mobility, and offboarding processes.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy and security standards while resolving data integrity issues.
  • Lead audit and compliance management across People operations.
  • Oversee tiered query resolution and ticketing systems (e.g., Zendesk, ServiceNow), ensuring alignment with GitHub policies.
  • Partner with Procurement for external staff onboarding and vendor management.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement within the People Services team.
  • Deliver measurable impact on business outcomes through operational strategy and infrastructure support.
  • Drive innovation in People service delivery through automation, AI, and digital tools that enhance employee experience.

Capability Building, Operational Compliance, & Queue Management

  • Build manager capability by conducting one-on-one consulting/coaching with business leaders, identifying training needs and developing action plans
  • Oversee team partnerships with senior leaders in Corporate Governance, Work Councils, International Labor Relations, and Communities of Belonging) to ensure compliance with relevant international and national employment law
  • Manage inbound queries via queue management systems and partner with People Services to continuously improve tools and processes.

People Leadership

  • Champion GitHub’s culture and values through change leadership, inclusive practices, and employee experience initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of coaching and continuous development across the People Consulting and Services teams through modeling, feedback, and structured growth planning.
  • Build and lead a high-performing global team of People Consultants and Services professionals by setting clear expectations, aligning goals, and celebrating impact.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of work experience in Human Resources, Business programs/processes, or related field programs/processes, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field AND 8+ years of work experience in Human Resources
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Employee Relations experience
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing, program managing, implementing, and refining scalable HR programs


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of international HR experience
  • Deep understanding of People systems (e.g., Workday, Zendesk), data governance, and compliance frameworks
  • Experience in global, technical organizations as a consultative HR leader
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and external service providers
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience with ticketing systems and knowledge base platforms
  • Demonstrated success in HR transformation initiatives or HRIS implementations
  • Strong understanding of labor laws and compliance requirements across multiple geographies
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and change management skills
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage complex stakeholder relationships
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in data-driven decision-making
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $132,400.00 - USD $351,300.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
