Job description: Reporting to the Town Accountant, this 20-hour position performs financial, clerical, and recordkeeping support work within the Accounting Office.

Examples of work include:

  • Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the department.
  • Updates and maintains data in Munis; prepares forms, spreadsheets and other documents; completes and distributes accordingly.
  • Ensures purchases have proper approvals; creates encumbrances as needed.
  • Verifies invoices for accuracy and processes payments.
  • Generates and distributes warrants for authorization.
  • Conducts year end process to close all accounts and tracks encumbrances.
  • Processes purchase orders to be sent to vendors for ordering supplies/materials and services.
  • Resolves problems with vendors concerning unpaid invoices, prepares correspondence and/or contacts via telephone.
  • Answers questions on the phone and in person.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with courses in bookkeeping and accounting, or related; Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Superior and current computer skills, including record/database management and financial software.
  • Superior financial skills; proficient using a calculator.
  • Ability to learn specialized departmental software applications.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to function effectively and efficiently in a multi-disciplined and dynamic work environment.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
This position is included within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Starting salary at Grade 5A, Step I of the BMEA contract is $21.96 per hour plus benefits. This is a part-time position, 20-hours per week.
